Last updated: September 12, 2025

Thank you for using Electrum-CAT, a lightweight and secure Catcoin wallet based on the proven Electrum architecture. This Privacy Policy explains how Electrum-CAT handles your personal information - which, in short, is very minimal. We believe in privacy by design.

About Electrum-CAT

Electrum-CAT is a desktop and mobile Catcoin wallet forked from Electrum-GRS v4.5.4 in February 2025, which in turn is a derivative of the original Electrum BTC wallet. It is developed and maintained by:

No Personal Data Collection

Electrum-CAT is a self-custodial, open-source, and non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data. Specifically:

  • No account registration is required.
  • No name, email, phone number, or address is collected.
  • No telemetry or analytics are embedded.
  • No usage data or behavioral data is recorded.

Self-Custody and Local Encryption

  • Your wallet's private keys and seed phrase are generated and stored locally on your device.
  • These sensitive credentials are never transmitted to our servers or third parties.
  • Private data is encrypted using strong industry standards (e.g., AES-256) and is decrypted only when required to sign a transaction.

Network Privacy and IP Address

While Electrum-CAT does not track users, it connects to ElectrumX servers to retrieve blockchain data and broadcast transactions.

  • When you connect to public Electrum servers, your IP address may be visible to those servers.
  • You can optionally run your own ElectrumX server for enhanced privacy, completely eliminating reliance on third-party nodes.

Optional Server Hosting

To enhance privacy, advanced users may:

  • Host their own ElectrumX server.
  • Configure Electrum-CAT to connect only to trusted nodes.
  • Use anonymity networks (e.g., Tor or VPNs) to obfuscate IP addresses.

Third-Party Access

  • Electrum-CAT does not share your data with any third party.
  • There are no embedded analytics, ads, or tracking libraries.
  • We do not use cloud-based infrastructure that processes user wallets or transactions.

Your Responsibilities

You, the user, are fully responsible for:

  • Backing up your 12-word seed phrase securely.
  • Preventing unauthorized access to your device.
  • Not sharing your private keys or passwords.

If you lose your seed phrase, we cannot help you recover your wallet.

Security Disclaimer

Although Electrum-CAT is designed with security in mind:

  • No software is immune to vulnerabilities.
  • Users are encouraged to download the wallet only from the official website or GitHub repository.
  • Always verify the wallet signature or checksum before installing any binary.

Compliance and Distribution

Electrum-CAT is designed to meet privacy and data protection standards required by major software distribution platforms, including the Microsoft Store, GitHub, and third-party open-source aggregators.

  • Trust minimization and client-side verification are central to its design.
